This workshop covers the different types of beledi a band might play for a dancer (or that can be found on dance CDs), some historical context and music information to help dancers interpret the music, which is the least "Western" part of the Arabic show, with roots in rural folk music of Egypt (Ranya has been researching this topic with Egyptian musicians and in travels in Egypt for a several years).

Ranya’s holistic approach to Egyptian technique works towards awakening a sense of postural, muscular, and energetic connections in the body. Designed to produce a healthy, centered, grounded way of dancing, to feel good, execute movements well, and protect the body from injury by using muscular support. We’ll work with some of Ranya’s favorite combinations, and focus on the technique of “movement linking” to create a smooth flow between distinct movements, as well as applying breathwork to the combinations for a more relaxed look and feel. Not just for Oriental dancers, this workshop applies to all styles of Belly Dance.

Ranya incorporates breathwork into all aspects of her Egyptian dance classes and workshops, both for the physical technique of the dance and also in helping performers to fill the space with their energy and reach their audiences. Topics covered include: how to use focused breathing to shape the energy of a show, relax the performer and build a connection with the audience; open oneself to the music and to an audience or fellow performers in a group.
Acting for Dancers –Explores the different moods and emotional colors that bring interest and fun to the bellydance show. This work allows dancers to bring out different aspects of their personality in performance, using the language of Oriental dance and the dance show as a vehicle for personal expression. "Access your inner 'Ho", "Being the Queen" and "Giving and Receiving" are a few of the concepts that will be touched upon.
